The Benzie Central softball team defeated Frankfort 3-2 on May 12, 2026, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season in the Northwest Conference.

The Huskies secured the victory in the first game of the series. The second game was subsequently suspended in the sixth inning due to lightning, at a point when Frankfort held a 7-2 lead.

Benzie Central head coach Scott Brautigam attributed the first-game win to a strong defensive performance by his team.

“We just played solid defense in that first game,” Brautigam said. “We were making really good plays. They were getting on (base), they were forcing the issue and we made the plays. We caught two or three out there on the bases where they were trying to pick up extra bases. We executed what we had been practicing.”

The game featured several key defensive and offensive plays. Benzie Central’s Lilly Robart tagged out Frankfort’s Darby O’Grady, and Alexa Smith tagged Ava Meyer as she attempted to slide into third base. On offense, Benzie Central’s Lydia Heiges and Amorie Mosher both recorded hits.

For Frankfort, Sage Myers pitched against Benzie Central, and Kyleigh Robideau was active in the field, throwing toward first base during the contest.

Frankfort head coach Amber Wilson noted that the loss highlighted a need for better offensive execution.

“We definitely need to hit,” Wilson said. “We have to go up there ready for a hit. That’s our biggest lesson is that we have to be ready in that batter’s box to get ahead….”

Following the events of May 12, Benzie Central holds a season record of 14-13-2, while Frankfort stands at 15-2-1.
