Bridging the Digital Divide: Local Entrepreneurs Bring Affordable Internet to Cape Town Communities

A grassroots initiative is bringing much-needed internet access to underserved communities in Cape Town, South Africa. Errorless Connections & Infrastructure, founded in September 2025, is leveraging air fibre technology to provide reliable and affordable connectivity, starting in Delft and expanding to Bonteheuwel.

The company’s origins lie in the personal frustrations of founder Charlton Loubscher, who experienced unreliable internet service at his home. “I had problems with my WiFi one rainy day, and I wanted to upgrade my package because it was slow,” Loubscher told the Daily Voice. This led him to connect with a technician, Grant Skippers, and develop a business plan centered around air fibre technology.

The venture quickly gained momentum, particularly after a connection with Angus McKenzie, a local ward councillor in Bonteheuwel. McKenzie facilitated access to a tower for installation, enabling Errorless Connections & Infrastructure to connect residents in the newly developed Bonteheuwel housing area. The timing proved crucial, coinciding with the influx of new residents.

However, Loubscher’s commitment extends beyond simply providing a service. Driven by a desire to give back to the community, inspired by his activist mother, he spearheaded the installation of free WiFi at the Bonteheuwel Civic Centre. “I told Mr McKenzie that I wanted to put free Wi-Fi in for the community, because my mother was a community worker, and that rubbed off on me,” Loubscher explained. The free access point utilizes a special login and is available to all community members.

The impact of this initiative is already being felt. Councillor McKenzie highlighted the broader benefits, stating, “Their work is not only about building a successful business; it is about connecting families, empowering young people with access to information, and helping our community participate in the digital world.” Clients have reportedly praised the quality of the internet service, the efficiency of the installation process, and the friendly customer service.

This development occurs within a broader context of efforts to improve digital connectivity in Cape Town and the Western Cape region. The City of Cape Town’s SmartCape initiative, as outlined on capetown.gov.za, offers free or low-cost internet access at libraries and WiFi hotspots. Wesgro’s Annual Performance Plan 2024/25 emphasizes the importance of digital connectivity for economic growth in the region, as reported by Invest Cape Town.

The success of Errorless Connections & Infrastructure also reflects a growing trend of community-led solutions to address the digital divide. Similar initiatives, such as TooMuchWifi, are expanding internet coverage in areas like Bonteheuwel, as noted in a May 7, 2025 Facebook post. TooMuchWifi recently appointed a new CEO, Tauriq Brown, in March 2023, signaling continued investment in expanding access. Lorna Mlonzi’s work, highlighted by News24, demonstrates a broader commitment to affordable internet access across South Africa.

Looking ahead, the expansion of Errorless Connections & Infrastructure, alongside similar initiatives, will be crucial in bridging the digital gap in Cape Town. The continued support of local government officials, like Councillor McKenzie, and the dedication of entrepreneurs like Charlton Loubscher and Grant Skippers, will be key to ensuring that more communities have access to the opportunities afforded by reliable and affordable internet connectivity. The focus will likely shift towards scaling these successful models and exploring innovative solutions to reach even more underserved areas.
