England’s Matt Fitzpatrick enters the 2026 PGA Championship as one of the most dominant forces on the PGA Tour this season, having secured more victories in 2026 than any other player. Fitzpatrick is preparing to tee off at Aronimink Golf Club from May 14 to May 17, 2026, following a series of high-profile performances that have positioned him as a primary contender for the title.

The 31-year-old 2022 U.S. Open champion has already claimed three wins during the 2026 season. These victories include the Valspar Championship, the RBC Heritage on April 19, 2026 and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on April 26, 2026.

Fitzpatrick’s form has remained consistent across various high-stakes events. He finished solo second at THE PLAYERS Championship on March 15, 2026, and most recently secured a tied-fifth finish at the Truist Championship on May 10, 2026.

The victory at the Zurich Classic was particularly significant as Fitzpatrick teamed up with his brother, Alex. That win allowed Alex to earn his PGA Tour card, and he has since maintained strong form with a tied-ninth and a fourth-place finish in his two subsequent starts.

Reflecting on his brother’s progress, Matt Fitzpatrick noted the resilience Alex showed during the Truist Championship on May 10, 2026.

I think to battle back how he did yesterday after the start was really impressive, and I think he should credit himself because I think in years gone by, probably could have gotten away from him pretty quickly. To be in contention right to the 70th hole was a testament to how far he’s come.

Fitzpatrick’s success in 2026 is supported by elite statistical performance across several key metrics. He currently ranks fifth in strokes gained total and third in strokes gained tee-to-green. He is ranked fifth in strokes gained approach to green, sixth in driving accuracy, and seventh in scoring.

Fitzpatrick has attributed his current trajectory to a focus on data and a solid start to the season following a poor performance at Bay Hill prior to THE PLAYERS Championship.

As he returns to the PGA Championship, Fitzpatrick looks to improve upon his 2025 result, where he finished tied for eighth with a score of 4-under. His best historical finish at the event occurred in 2022, when he finished tied for fifth at 3-under.

The current surge in form has also elevated Fitzpatrick in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). While Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have maintained the top two positions for over a year, Fitzpatrick has emerged as a top candidate for the No. 3 spot.

He is currently locked in a tight competition with Cameron Young for that ranking. Young is officially the No. 3-ranked player in the world, having secured a victory at Doral and defeating Fitzpatrick at this year’s Players Championship.

Fitzpatrick’s recent consistency is evident in his tournament history, having finished in the top 20 seven times over his last ten appearances, with five of those being top-10 finishes.

The upcoming event at Aronimink Golf Club will serve as a critical test for Fitzpatrick to determine if he can translate his current PGA Tour dominance into another major championship trophy.
