The Tigers secured a 10-3 victory in the first game of the evening but were defeated by the Kernels in the second game, which ended in a 15-2 decision in five innings.
Mitchell Victory in Game One
Mitchell’s win in the opening game was led by a complete-game performance on the mound from Carter McCormick. McCormick threw 106 pitches and recorded 10 strikeouts, allowing eight hits and four walks while giving up three runs.
The Mitchell offense established an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs. This initial advantage was powered by an RBI single from Ethan Hegg and a two-RBI double from Brennen Penne.
Harrisburg responded in the second inning when Griffen Schlapkohl hit a two-run home run. However, Bailor Kristensen answered in the bottom half of the same inning with a three-run home run, marking the first home run of the season for Mitchell High School and extending the lead to 7-2.
Both Carter McCormick and Ethan Hegg recorded two hits and scored twice during the contest. Bailor Kristensen finished the game with three RBIs, while Brennen Penne drove in two runs. Lincoln Bottum also contributed an RBI to the effort.
Mitchell’s offense showed significant patience at the plate, drawing a total of 11 walks. Three of those walks were issued by Harrisburg’s Stratton Forst.
For Harrisburg, Gavin Weir recorded three hits, while Bryson Esser and Griffen Schlapkohl each finished the game with two hits.
Harrisburg Dominance in Game Two
Despite the momentum from the first game, Mitchell was unable to complete the sweep. Harrisburg took control of the second game, securing a 15-2 victory. The game was called after five innings.
