Federal Reserve ⁤Holds Steady on Interest Rates, Signals Potential Cuts in 2024

The Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) voted ⁢unanimously on january 24, 2024, to maintain ⁤the ‍federal funds rate in a target range of⁢ 5.25% to 5.50%. Inflation and Economic⁢ Outlook

Future rate⁤ Cuts

In a statement following the meeting,the ​FOMC stated it does not expect it will be appropriate to⁢ reduce the target range until it has gained greater ⁢confidence that inflation is ⁤moving sustainably toward 2%. ‌Though, officials indicated they are discussing when it would be⁢ appropriate ‍to begin lowering ​rates.

“The committee is prepared to adjust the stance of​ monetary policy as ⁤appropriate if risks emerge that ​could impede the attainment of the Committee’s goals,” the FOMC statement ‌read.

Market ‍Reaction

Financial markets reacted positively ‌to the FOMC’s dovish tone. The S&P 500 index rose ‍1.5% on January 24, 2024. Treasury yields fell, wiht the 10-year Treasury yield dropping to 4.09%.
