West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey announced on May 13, 2026, that the state will host a new $25 million manufacturing facility through a partnership between global engineering firm Sandvik and Alpha Metallurgical Resources (AMR). The project, expected to create at least 120 new jobs, marks a significant expansion of West Virginia’s industrial sector and strengthens the state’s role in domestic supply chains.

The 100,000-square-foot facility will focus on producing rock bolts and resin capsules, with potential for future product diversification. Sandvik will hold a 51% stake in the joint venture, while AMR will contribute 49%, alongside a long-term exclusive supply agreement. The investment aligns with Governor Morrisey’s broader economic strategy to position West Virginia as a leader in manufacturing and energy development.

“This partnership between Sandvik and Alpha Metallurgical Resources is another sign that West Virginia is competing and winning in the manufacturing and energy sectors,” Governor Morrisey said in a statement. “This new manufacturing facility will strengthen critical supply chains, support high-paying jobs, and reinforce West Virginia’s role as a leader in industrial production and energy development.”

Mats Eriksson, President of Sandvik Mining, emphasized the strategic importance of re-entering the U.S. Ground support market with local production. “Re-entering the U.S. Ground support market with a local manufacturing presence is strategically important,” Eriksson stated. “This initiative will allow our Ground Support business to strengthen customer relationships, shorten lead times, and build a scalable platform for long-term growth in North America.”

The project underscores West Virginia’s efforts to attract industrial investment amid a national push for resilient domestic supply chains, particularly in sectors tied to mining and energy infrastructure. While specific timelines for construction and operation were not disclosed in the announcement, the facility’s development is expected to proceed in alignment with the joint venture’s phased expansion plans.

No additional details were provided regarding workforce demographics, environmental impact assessments, or broader economic projections beyond the stated job creation and investment figures. Follow-up reporting will track the facility’s progress and its potential ripple effects on West Virginia’s economy.
