[경제]More than 100,000 cases of cacao damage… Government demands duplication of core functions

[앵커]

A total of 105,000 cases of damage from the alleged cacao crash that occurred in mid-October were counted.

The government reported that the SK C&C data center fire was the main cause, but Kakao’s core function duplication measures were also insufficient, and it insisted on strengthening this.

On October 15, around 3:00 PM, KakaoTalk suddenly stopped and the so-called Kakao stopped working.

The lithium-ion battery in the SK C&C data center caught fire, the entire power supply was cut off in the process of extinguishing the fire, and service failures of residential companies such as Kakao and Naver occurred.

The government judged that although fire was the main cause, the fact that the damage to Kakao’s service was increased compared to Naver was due to insufficient measures to duplicate core functions.

Therefore, the government asked Kakao to strengthen the distribution and redundancy of core functions to reduce excessive dependence on a single data center.

On the SK C&C side, the space between the battery space and the electric facility was separated to prevent power supply interruption as much as possible in the event of another battery fire.

The government said that digital services such as Kakao and Naver were not prepared for disasters compared to their importance, and that all companies were required to report on future action plans within a month.

So far, a total of 105,000 cases have been damaged by the Kakao Meal incident, and 13,000 cases of free services talking about financial damage have been received.

Kakao said an advisory body has been formed to discuss the standard and amount of compensation for damage to free services.
