[국제]100,000 fewer confirmed cases in the US in 10 days… “Worldwide stabilization by the end of the year”

[앵커]

There is optimism that the U.S. has crossed a turning point as the average daily number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States has decreased by about 100,000 in the past ten days.

The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that new mutations are still possible, but that the state of emergency could be over by the end of the year if countries around the world reach their goal of vaccinating 70% of their population by mid-year.

As of the 23rd, the average daily number of new confirmed cases in the United States for 7 days was about 690,000, and after peaking at about 806,000 on the 14th, the number has decreased by more than 100,000 in ten days.

The number of hospitalized patients due to COVID-19 has also been on the decline.

As the proliferation of omicrons crosses a turning point, hopeful optimism is emerging.

Soon, the number of confirmed cases will come down to a controllable level.

In Europe, the number of new infections per day peaked at 1.7 million on the 20th and is gradually decreasing.

It is showing a similar trend to South Africa, which has undergone a ‘rapid spread followed by a rapid decline’.

Accordingly, there is also an expectation that the corona crisis will soon turn into an endemic stage.

But the appearance of another mutation is a variable.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also stressed that the idea that omicron mutations would be the last was dangerous.

The state of emergency could be over by the end of the year if all countries around the world reach their goal of vaccinating 70% of their population by the middle of this year.
