It was later revealed that an apartment in Florida, USA, which collapsed at dawn on the 24th, was evaluated as seriously damaged by an inspection three years ago.
Architect Frank Moravito, who inspected the building at the time, wrote in the report that the concrete under the outdoor swimming pool had been severely damaged and that there were many cracks in the columns and walls of the underground parking lot.
In particular, it was evaluated that there was a defect in the waterproofing agent under the top plate surrounding the swimming pool, and it was pointed out that “significant structural damage has occurred to the concrete plate further down”.
“If the waterproofing agent is not replaced soon, concrete corrosion will proceed significantly,” he said.
Damage has also been documented throughout the underground parking lot below the swimming pool.
“The Miami-Dade County Surfside Authority has been clearly reported to the residents’ committee that there was a problem with the apartment, but it appears they have not taken action.”
