German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for stricter restrictions, saying Germany’s current COVID-19 situation is the worst.
According to Bloomberg, Merkel has urged officials from the ruling Christian Democrats to tighten restrictions in 16 states, saying hospitals will soon become saturated unless the fourth wave wanes.
The federal government and 16 state governments have previously agreed to a plan to restrict access to restaurants and bars for those not vaccinated against COVID-19, and some states have decided to introduce partial lockdowns.
