One winner scooped the world’s biggest lottery jackpot.
The California Lottery Association announced on Twitter on the 8th local time that the winning Powerball ticket worth $2.04 billion and KRW 2.81 trillion in Korean currency was sold at an auto repair shop in California.
Since the beginning of August, there have been no top 40 winners, and the winnings have been piling up, surpassing the previous record of $1.586 billion in Powerball in January 2016, becoming the highest amount ever.
In particular, unlike January 2016, where three winners shared the winnings, only one won this time.
The Powerball jackpot was estimated at $1.9 billion, but the draw, scheduled for the night before, was delayed for more than 10 hours due to technical weaknesses in some areas, and rose to the level of $2 billion.
The total return is the amount you get when you receive it as an annuity over 29 years, and even if you choose to pay in cash, you can receive $997.6 million before tax or KRW 1.37 trillion in Korean currency.
According to the Lottery Association, the chance of winning Powerball is 1 in 292.2 million.
