Joe Biden’s US administration has completely banned the import of seafood caught by an entire Chinese fleet because of forced labor.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection imposed a ban on all seafood caught by a fleet of Ocean Fishing in Dalian, China, which operates 33 tuna fishing boats on the 28th local time.
As the background of the action, I heard that many Indonesian workers were forced to work on the fleet’s fishing boats.
Authorities say the investigation revealed that the employed Indonesian workers were in an environment of harsh behavior, such as working under conditions that were too different than expected, physical violence, exploitation of wages, and slavery to repay debt.
Accordingly, the company said that products containing seafood such as canned tuna and pet food, as well as seafood such as tuna and swordfish caught by these fleets, will be subject to a delivery order as soon as they enter the United States.
The measure came two days after US Trade Representative Catherine Tai and Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu Hee discussed trade issues on the 26th. It’s possible.
