Prosecutors investigating suspicions of preferential treatment for a development project in Daejang-dong, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, said they would disclose that they had bribed real estate consulting firm Jeong Jae-chang (52), accountant Jeong Young-hak (53), and lawyer Nam Wook (48), and lawyer Yoo Dong-gyu (52), former head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation 150 It is understood that the investigation is being conducted on allegations of blackmail and intimidation in relation to receiving 12 billion won after requesting 100 million won.

According to the legal community on the 25th, the investigation team dedicated to the development of Daejang-dong at the Seoul Central Prosecutor’s Office (team leader Kim Tae-hoon, 4th deputy chief prosecutor) is currently investigating Jung on charges of blackmail and intimidation. During the prosecution’s investigation, accountant Jung intends to sue Jung, saying, “He threatened to expose Mr. Jeong’s bribes of 350 million won to Yoo, demanded 15 billion won and received 12 billion won from him and Nam’s lawyer.” has been revealed several times. Accordingly, the prosecution also discovered the suspicion of Jung’s crime and started an investigation.

In 2013 and 2014, Mr. Jung, accountant Jeong, and lawyer Nam handed over 355 million won to former general manager Yoo Dong-gyu for the purpose of providing convenience in the Daejang-dong development project. They even wrote an agreement stipulating that ‘the profits of the Daejang-dong development project will be divided by exactly one-third.’ After the business slowed down, Jung exchanged his stake in the Daejang-dong business with the lawyer Nam’s stake in the Wirye New Town business, and withdrew from the Daejang-dong business.

However, when the Daejang-dong project was carried out in a public-private joint manner in 2015 and land prices rose and the profits were expected to be substantial, Mr. Jeong began to engage in the Daejang-dong project again. In the process, Jung pressured lawyer Nam and accountant Jung to expose the fact that he had bribed former general manager Yoo if he did not give him 15 billion won in profits from Daejang-dong. In the end, accountant Jung and lawyer Nam agreed to give 15 billion won to Jeong to keep his mouth shut, and delivered 6 billion won each to Jeong for a total of 12 billion won.

Accountant Jung’s mention of charges against Jung during the prosecution’s investigation is read as an intention to get 12 billion won back. However, the legal circles believe that it will be difficult for accountant Jeong to get his money back even if the charges of blackmail and intimidation are acknowledged. This is because the prosecution indicted accountant Jung and lawyer Nam on charges of breach of trust under the Specific Economic Aggravated Punishment Act, and requested compensation from the court for the assets of the two people.

A former deputy prosecutor-general lawyer said, “Since the fact that bribes were handed over to Yoo Dong-gyu, criminal punishment will be possible only if it is proven that Jeong blackmailed and threatened him. It may be considered as a ‘, so it will not be easy for two people to take care of it.”
