[스포티비뉴스=지바, 맹봉주 기자] Korea Taekwondo’s ‘signboard’ Lee Dae-hoon and Lee Ah-reum were eliminated in the round of 16 together. Korea, the home of Taekwondo, recorded ‘No Gold’ for two days in a row.
Dae-Hoon Lee (29, Daejeon City Hall), who was aiming for his first Olympic gold medal in his career, suffered a shocking loss of the round of 16.
Dae-Hoon Lee lost his head by conceding two points in the Golden Round (extension) in a 19-19 draw with Ulugbek Rashitov (Uzbekistan) in the men’s 68kg class taekwondo round of 16 at the Tokyo Olympics held at Makuharimesse, Japan on the 25th.
In the match against Taiwanese Lo Chia Ling, Ah-reum Lee drew 18-18 and headed to the Golden Round. Lee Ah-reum conceded two points to the opponent in the early game and lost the game.
Taekwondo, a traditional filial sport, did not hunt for a gold medal on the first day of the competition. In the women’s 49kg class, Shim Jae-young lost 7-16 to Yamada Miyu (Japan) in the quarterfinals and failed to qualify for the medal.
World No. 1 Jang Jun-man won the men’s 58k bronze medal.
Korea failed to start the ‘golden kick’ with an unexpected shock defeat.
