[사회]Disposable cup deposit system, ‘delayed for 6 months’ due to protests from self-employed people

[앵커]

The disposable cup deposit system, which was scheduled to be implemented at 32,000 cafes and fast food stores nationwide from the 10th of next month, has been delayed to December.

The government has once again raised its hand in protest against the cost burden of the self-employed.

This is the demonstration site for the disposable cup deposit system that took place earlier this month.

When you order your drink in disposable cups, you are handed over a cup with a deposit label.

If you take the cup you drank, 300 won will be returned.

You can receive it in cash or you can earn points by installing the app.

Return is possible not only at the place where the drink was purchased, but also at any place where a return system is installed.

However, before the implementation of the system, strong opposition from the self-employed continued.

This is because, in addition to the cost of the anti-counterfeiting label attached to the cup, you have to pay the cost to the company that collects the returned cup.

There was also the issue of equity.

It is pointed out that there are not a few small stores that are smaller than individual stores even if they are franchise stores, but they do not take this into consideration.

On the bulletin board of the Ministry of Environment’s Resource Circulation Deposit Management Center, complaints from self-employed people have been steadily posting.

Politicians have also put pressure on the government, such as requesting a waiver of the deposit system so as not to put an excessive burden on small business owners.

As the controversy grew, the Ministry of Environment held an emergency meeting with representatives of franchisees and decided to delay the implementation of the system by about six months until December.

In addition, during the grace period, we decided to introduce a plan to minimize the burden of small stores due to the implementation of the deposit system.

However, some critics say that the Ministry of Environment’s decision was pushed back by the environmental policy that was decided two years ago, being pushed by politicians and public opinion.
