Last year, one of the three households in Korea was a single household.

Changes in family form are led by younger generations, and over half of those in their 20s are unmarried and single or not willing to give birth to children.

The traditional family form of parents and unmarried children is declining.

Last year, the number of such households was 31%, down by more than 12 percentage points from 2015.

What’s more noticeable is the surge in single-person households.

Five years ago, it was only 21%, but now more than one of the three households is a single person.

These changes are being driven by young people.

More than half of those in their 20s agree not to have children, even if they are single or married.

More than 40% of unmarried cohabitation agreed, and 23% of the broadcaster Sayuri’s choice for unmarried childbirth.

Although the consent rate declined with age, 28% of all households agreed with childless life, which led to the biggest change in perception.

In addition, over 35% of people have opinions on abolishing discrimination in common-law or non-marriage cohabitation.

Despite the changing family concept, the burden of parenting was concentrated on women.

In particular, more than 70% of women take care of children under the age of 12, and gender stereotypes in the field of parenting remain the same.
