President Yoon Seok-yeol announced a diplomatic line change, saying the previous government was obsessed with North Korea.
He emphasized that the security cooperation of the three countries is necessary to respond to the nuclear threat of North Korea, and that THAAD cannot be compromised as a sovereign matter.

In a meeting with the New York Times, President Yoon Seok-yeol emphasized that there is trilateral security cooperation between South Korea, the United States and Japan in order to protect peace in Northeast Asia in response to the North Korean nuclear threat.
He said he would find a solution to North Korea’s provocations by making extended deterrence more substantial by comprehensively covering all packages, including the US nuclear umbrella.
President Yoon criticized the North Korea policy of the previous Moon Jae-in administration and compared it to a student who was obsessed with a certain friend in the classroom.
The New York Times added the phrase ‘political show’, but the president’s office clarified that it was a statement made in the past and was not mentioned in this interview.

President Yoon also dismissed the THAAD issue as fully countering the nuclear threat of North Korea, not China, and because it is a sovereign issue for the lives and security of the people, there can be no compromise.
President Yoon, who laid out a road map for the denuclearization of North Korea, the so-called ‘bold initiative’, predicted that if North Korea made a rational choice, it would open the door to the international community and receive support economic.
He repeatedly emphasized that even before denuclearization is complete, after declaring, there can be benefits.
President Yoon plans to incorporate this North Korean nuclear solution in a keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly early in the morning on the 21st to reach a consensus among member countries.
