[조진구 칼럼] Challenges left by the Korea-Japan Summit

It has been 11 years and 3 months since President Lee Myung-bak visited Kyoto in December 2011, and a Korean president has visited Japan. President Yoon Seok-yeol’s visit came true as Japan evaluated the South Korean government’s third-party reimbursement plan for the issue of forced labor, which was the biggest pending issue between Korea and Japan. However, at this Korea-Japan summit or dinner, the expected ‘sincere response’ from Japan was not expressed. It may have been unreasonable from the beginning to expect that the distrust between the governments of the two countries and the emotional resentment of the people will be resolved through a single summit meeting.
