A Christmas advert with a message calling for action on climate change
[매드타임스 이지원 인턴 기자] At the end of October, advertisements for the Christmas season began in the countries of England and Europe. Christmas adverts focus narrowly on family love and broadly on social harmony. Amazon features the love between father and daughter, and Disney features the love between a newly born younger brother and the main character. John Lewis embodies the harmony of a new type of family known as a foster family, and Penny, a German grocer, highlights the importance of communication between neighbours. And the Norwegian post office goes beyond family and society to include the love of planet Earth and human Christmas.
Leaving the rainy window behind, Santa writes a letter that begins with “We are made for each other.” The letter completed with sadness and longing for the last days they love is sent to ‘Earth’. The earth that received the letter returns. However, the ad calls for action, ending with “Mother Earth can’t give you another chance.”

Poston has already reduced its CO2 emissions by 51% and aims to achieve zero emissions by 2030. Poston said he hopes advertising will be an incentive for companies to take action on climate change. Marketing manager Monica Solberg said: “We have taken climate change and environmental issues very seriously, and these issues particularly appeal to young people. However, we want this campaign to spread widely. And we hope to stir the emotions of an older audience who sit at the top of the corporate world.”
