വെള്ളിക്കെട്ടന്റെ കടിയേറ്റ്; Bad end for the lion at the zoo

A lion at the Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha has been bitten by a silver snake. On Friday, zoo staff found the African lion Ganga in a critical condition. He started treatment immediately but could not save his life. The venomous snake was found during a search by staff at the lion’s den.

The snake was bitten and given antidote but to no avail. Ganga was 15 years old. Animal rights activists have blamed the zoo authorities for killing the lion.

Silver is called Common Cretan in English. They are locally known as Valavalappan, Kattuviriyan, Ettadiveeran, Mothiravalayan, Valayappan, Kettuvalayan, Karivela and Rajila Shankhuvarayan with black and white stripes.
