The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for rapper Jang Yong-joon (active name Noel, 21), who is accused of assaulting a police officer for refusing to take a breathalyzer. Jang is the son of Representative Jang Je-won of People’s Power.

According to the legal community on the 7th, the Human Rights Protection Department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office recently concluded an interview with Mr.

Earlier, the police applied for a preliminary arrest warrant for Jang on the 1st, applying five charges, including refusal to measure breath under the Road Traffic Act, driving without a license, damage to property, and injury under the Criminal Act and obstruction of the execution of official duties. The police decided that an arrest investigation was necessary in consideration of the fact that the police officer was assaulted during the probation period. However, to prove that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time, evidence such as CCTV was collected, but the charges could not be revealed. If the person refuses to take a breathalyzer test like Mr. Jang, the extent of alcohol consumption is estimated through a criminal investigation and the charges are applied. According to the current road traffic law, if the blood alcohol concentration is 0.2% or higher, refusing to take a breathalyzer is a lighter punishment.

Jang was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison and 2 years of probation in June of last year on charges of running away after a drunk driving accident in 2019. However, after about 15 months, he had a contact accident again and was arrested for refusing to take a breathalyzer test. He appeared at the Seocho Police Station around 6:45 pm on the 30th of last month and returned home after being investigated as a suspect for about 6 hours. It will be held in the district court.
