On the 6th, the Task Force (TF) of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, stipulated that in relation to the murder of a public official in the West Sea, “there was an organized extortion of the victims and their families to North Korea.”

Rep. Ha Tae-kyung, who served as the head of the task force, held a briefing on the results of the task force investigation at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the day, claiming that “(The Moon Jae-in government) left death without efforts to rescue the victims” and “deceived the public and misled public opinion.” She added, “After confirming the survival of the (victim), there were no rescue orders and rescue activities from the President, the Blue House National Security Office, and the Defense Minister.”

Assemblyman Ha also claimed that the government hid Lee’s survival from the bereaved family even when the late Lee Dae-jun, an official of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, was alive in North Korean waters. It is said that the Ministry of National Defense confirmed the location of Mr. Lee around 3:30 pm on September 22, 2020, and concealed it from the bereaved family, who was searching for the missing location, so that they searched the wrong place. Rep. Ha emphasized, “If the government had shared with the bereaved family that Mr. Lee was found alive in the North,[Mr. Lee]could have been saved.”

The task force also urged former President Moon Jae-in to express his position, citing ‘three positions’ as persons to be held legally responsible for: former National Security Office Chief Suh Hoon, former Defense Minister Seo Wook, and former National Security Council (NSC) Secretary General Suh Joo-seok.
