(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Hyeong-seop = The Blue House announced on the 5th that it would open the ‘South side of Bukaksan Mountain’ behind the Blue House building, which had been restricted from access since the 6th, to the general public.

This allowed citizens to freely enter and exit almost the entire area of Mt. Bukak in 54 years since the so-called ‘Kim Shin-jo Incident’, in which North Korean armed spies attempted a surprise attack on the Blue House in 1968.

Previously, the Blue House had lifted access control on the ‘North side of Mt. Bukak’ in November 2020.

After one year and six months, the remaining southern side was also decided to be completely open to the public.

President Moon Jae-in and his wife took a walk on the southern side of the fortress this afternoon to commemorate the occasion.

The area of Mt. Bukak is about 1.1 million square meters, equivalent to 4.7 times that of Yeouido Park, and the length of the trail is 5.2 km, the Blue House introduced.

The Blue House said, “With this measure, the section of Inwangsan – Buam-dong – Bukaksan north side – Hanyang City Seonggwak – Bukaksan mountain south side – Samcheong-dong, starting from Ansan, Seodaemun-gu, will continue without interruption. emphasized.

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Seong-gon Seo = President Moon Jae-in listens to an explanation from Kim Hyun-mo, director of the Cultural Heritage Administration, at the site of Beopheung Temple located on the southern trail of Bukaksan Mountain on the afternoon of the 5th.
The Blue House announced on the 6th that the southern side of Mt. Bukaksan will be fully opened to citizens after the first phase of the opening of the northern side of Mt. 2022.4.5 seephoto@yna.co.kr

The Blue House also said that the unused military facilities around Bukaksan Mountain, some iron fences located on the northern side of the Bukaksan Fortress after the ‘Kim Shinjo Incident’, were removed, and the section used as a patrol route was reorganized into a nature-friendly trail.

Instead, for the 189m section, it was decided to preserve its current appearance by naming the road ‘Remembering Modern and Contemporary History’.

In addition, it seems that access to the general public will still be restricted in very few areas that require security control.

The Blue House explained, “President Moon promised to return Bukaksan Mountain to the public by fully opening it to the public when he was a presidential candidate in 2017. This opening has the meaning of keeping his promise to the people.”

He also introduced that the Blue House had made efforts for an ‘open Blue House’, such as opening the front road to the Blue House 24 hours a day in 2017, opening Mt. Inwang in 2018, and opening myself in 2019.

However, some are also pointing out that the opening of Bukaksan Mountain is fading in that, coincidentally, the timing of the opening of the Blue House on May 10 coincided with President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol.
