[게임체인저 오미크론] Exemption from testing upon entry to the UK for vaccinated persons… Decrease in U.S. confirmed cases

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Lee Young-gi = The UK is withdrawing all corona testing measures for overseas travelers who have been vaccinated. As the spread of Omicron passed quickly, it turned again to the With Corona policy. In the United States, the number of new COVID-19 cases per day fell from 800,000 to 600,000 the day before.

According to Reuters news on the 24th (local time), the UK will withdraw all COVID-19 tests for foreign nationals who have been vaccinated from 4 a.m. on February 11th. The 8-day self-quarantine rule for immigrants who have not been vaccinated will also be removed.

In the UK, the pre-departure screening rule for immigrants who have already been vaccinated is abolished, and if the test is negative after arrival, self-quarantine is not required. Also, from the 27th, the duty to wear a mask indoors and the use of the Corona 19 pass will be eliminated.

However, those who are not vaccinated are required to undergo a pre-entry test and a gene amplification test within two days after entering the country, as before, and self-quarantine for 10 days.

Transport Minister Grant Chaps said in a statement to the House of Commons, “We will no longer maintain the quarantine measures against COVID-19.”

A person who has been vaccinated by the British government has completed the first dose of Janssen vaccine or has completed the second dose of another vaccine.

The new rules only apply to entry into England and Scotland, while Wales and Northern Ireland have yet to say whether they will change their entry rules.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said during a visit to the coronavirus vaccination training center at Milton Keynes University Hospital in northern London on the same day, “I wanted to show that the UK is a country open to business people and travelers, and the omicron mutation is passing faster than other countries.” .

In the United States, the spread of Omicron is also slowing down. According to the New York Times (NYT), as of the previous day, the average daily number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States for a week was 69,448. This is a significant decrease from 80,801 people as of the 14th.

The number of corona hospitalized patients also averaged 157,429 per day over the past week, decreasing from the peak of 159,433 on the 20th. However, the death toll stood at 2,182, an increase of 39% from two weeks ago.
