[경제]Banks expand negative loans… “Only the high-income earners benefit”

[앵커]

The negative loan limit that office workers can borrow from a bank relatively easily was set at 50 million won, but the limit has recently been extended.

However, there are criticisms that only the high-income earners can benefit from regulations that determine the size of the loan according to the annual income.

Negative loans allow ordinary people to get a bank loan through a relatively simple procedure when they need urgent money.

Last year, the negative loan limit was set at 50 million won to curb the increase in household debt, but commercial banks have recently expanded the limit, so citizens who wish to borrow are welcome.

Shinhan Bank has increased the limit of negative accounts by 50 million won to 100 million won.

Woori Bank also plans to increase the negative account limit from 50 million won to 80 million won to 300 million won depending on the product type.

KB Kookmin Bank and Hana Bank also recently returned the limit of negative bankbooks and credit loans to the level in the first half of last year.

A person with an annual income of 100 million won could borrow up to 50 million won through a negative bankbook, but in the future, it will be possible to receive up to 100 million won.

However, there is still a limit on the possibility of credit loans within the annual income range, so if the annual income does not increase, raising the limit is meaningless.

A bank official explained that the maximum limit for loan handling is a change, and the actual calculation limit for each individual is calculated within the same annual income range as before.

Accordingly, it is pointed out that special measures are needed for small and medium-sized businesses, etc., who have become difficult due to COVID-19, as the benefits of deregulation are focused on high-income earners.
