[경제]Consumption shrinks following the ‘Itaewon disaster’…worries about a serious economic downturn

[앵커]

As prices remain high and exports remain sluggish, the government has found that the economy has been slowing down for the seventh month.

Concerns about economic decline are growing as even consumption, which has been a help to the domestic economy, has been slow due to the Itaewon disaster.

The government has been worried about an economic slowdown for the seventh month.

Consumer prices have been held at a high level of 5% since last May, and exports, which fell for two consecutive months, have increased the decline.

Even domestic demand, which has supported the economy, has slowed its recovery.

Production of services contracted by 0.8% in October, while retail sales fell by 0.2%, a two-month retreat.

In particular, last month, the increase in domestic credit card approvals fell, and department store sales also fell to the 1% level.

Even consumer sentiment continued to fall, falling 2.3 points from October.

Consumer sentiment has shrunk following the Itaewon disaster.

With different economic indicators deteriorating like this, the government predicted that the economic situation next year would become more difficult.

In fact, next year’s economic growth rate predicted by major domestic and foreign institutions, such as the Bank of Korea and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, is only in the 1% range.
