[국제]A 555.55 carat black diamond from space goes up for auction

A black diamond, believed to have come from space a billion years ago, has been put up for auction.

On the 17th, Sotheby’s Dubai unveiled the 555.55 carat black diamond ‘The Enigma’.

Black diamonds, called ‘carbonados’, are said to be formed in the collision between the Earth and a meteor. Black diamond is a very rare mineral found only in Brazil and Central Africa.

Sotheby’s estimated that the diamond was made 1 billion years ago. Enigma holds the record for being the largest diamond in the world.

The diamond, which was unveiled as a publicity stunt before being auctioned off in London in February, is priced at $6.8 million (about KRW 8.1 billion).
Sotheby’s said that it is possible to pay with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
