[국제]Denmark, Corona quarantine regulations ‘Goodbye’… “There is no burden even with the surge in Omicron”

[앵커]

In Denmark, where Omicron, a new variant of COVID-19, is soaring, most quarantine regulations will be lifted from next month.

As the number of severely ill patients was extremely limited despite the rapid increase in Omicron infection, some European countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom boldly began to loosen quarantine restrictions.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen smiles brightly as she enters a press conference on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Danish government has decided to remove most quarantine restrictions from the 1st of next month, despite the surge in Omicron mutations.

It is now a declaration to say goodbye to quarantine regulations and return to life before the corona virus.

The Danish government has determined that omicron-mutant infections are skyrocketing, but are not a major burden on the health system due to the high vaccination rates and the low number of seriously ill patients.

In Denmark, the number of new COVID-19 cases recently reached an average of 46,000 a day, but the number of infected people being treated in the intensive care unit decreased to 40.

As a result, Denmark will no longer need to present a quarantine pass when entering and exiting restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs from next month, and no need to wear a mask.

Mask wearing restrictions apply only to hospitals, health facilities, and nursing homes.

The Netherlands, which had previously adhered to Europe’s strictest quarantine policy, partially eased quarantine regulations, such as limiting business hours for restaurants and bars.

The UK has also lifted major quarantine regulations, such as the use of indoor masks and the use of vaccine passes at large events.

Although the increase in Omicron mutations has not stopped, some European countries are easing social distancing and transitioning to ‘coexistence with COVID-19’.
