It is reported that the 20 major countries and the G20 leaders have agreed to limit the increase in global average temperature to within 1.5℃ of pre-industrial levels.
The Reuters news agency reported that the joint declaration contained in the summit meeting held in Rome, Italy on the 30th and 31st local time, that the increase in the global average temperature would be kept to 1.5 degrees Celsius or less.
This is a step forward from the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which agreed to limit the global average temperature to within 2℃.
However, it is reported that the G20 countries have not taken any concrete action, such as not nailing a specific date for 2050, a year of zero net carbon emissions.
The G20 countries account for around 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to climate change, the meeting discussed overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, recovering the global economy, and resolving the energy crisis.
