A volcanic eruption ravaged 11 villages.

The volcanic ash spewing out with a fierce force caused the houses to collapse without any help.

The death toll has surpassed 20, and the number of people missing is expected to increase further.

Of the 100 injured, about 60 are hospitalized and are receiving treatment for burns.

Authorities said it is possible that some of the missing people could not be found because they were buried in lava or ash mud.

In the rubble of a house, a mother and daughter were found dead while hugging each other, adding to the sadness.

So far, about 3,000 houses and roads have been destroyed, but about 1,700 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters.

Rescue operations are being carried out, including special orders from Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The continuous rain has turned the ash into mud, and further eruptions are overlapping.

Indonesia is located in the Pacific Rim orogeny called the ‘Ring of Fire’, so volcanic eruptions and earthquakes frequently occur.

There are about 120 active volcanoes distributed throughout the country, which is made up of 17,000 islands.
