Japanese Prime Minister Kishida met with Indian Prime Minister Modi and urged Russia to actively respond to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
However, India, which has long been friendly with Russia, did not mention Russia in the joint statement and press conference, revealing the temperature difference.

Prime Minister Kishida is the first Japanese prime minister to visit India since 2017.
He said he had in-depth discussions on the situation in Ukraine at the summit with Prime Minister Modi.

However, neither the joint statement of the two leaders nor the press conference denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
It only stated its principled position to immediately end the fighting and settle the dispute through dialogue and diplomacy.
Japan, which is active in the US-led sanctions against Russia, expected that India, a long-standing friendly with Russia, would join in, but it did not yield much.
Rather, only the differences in positions surrounding Russia within the quad member countries, a diplomatic cooperation that checks China in check, have become clearer.
India, on the other hand, has earned an income from attracting large investments from Japan.

Foreign Minister Hayashi visited Turkey, which is a NATO member and has closely maintained military and energy cooperation with Russia, and urged a joint response to Russia.
The two countries agreed that the invasion of Ukraine was a violation of international law, but Turkey also opposes sanctions against Russia.
The situation is hardly finding a clue to a solution as the major countries’ views on war are diverging in a pragmatic diplomacy that puts their own interests first.
