It is interpreted as an intention to occupy as much territory as possible by concentrating firepower in the eastern region while tying up the Ukrainian forces near the capital Kiiu with a small number of troops.

This is a satellite image of the southern city of Mariupol, where Russia has been bombarding ever since the beginning of the war.
The entire city was destroyed as if it were ruins.
The Mariupol Drama Theater, where hundreds of residents were killed in a bombing on the 16th, also stands horribly in ruins.
In Mariupol, thousands of civilians are known to have been killed so far, and more than 100,000 are said to have been evacuated in basements without food or water.
The reason Mariupol received such a concentrated attack is because it is a key point between the rebels in the eastern Donbas region and the Crimean Peninsula that was forcibly occupied by Russia.
The Russian military has recently eased its offensive near the capital Kiiu, but is intensifying its offensive against cities in the eastern Donbas region.
It is interpreted as an operation to secure as much territory as possible in the eastern and southern regions while the armistice negotiations are underway with the division of Ukraine in mind.

The Russian military also continued the offensive in the capital Kiiu and northern Chernivu, where they said they would drastically cut military activities to increase confidence in the peace negotiations.
It appears to be intended to concentrate firepower on the Eastern Front, blocking the movement of the main Ukrainian forces in the region with a small number of troops.
