It is known that the European Union and the EU depend on Russia for about a third of their total gas supply.

The Northstream-2 gas pipeline is a gas pipeline that directly connects Russia and Germany through the Baltic Sea bed, but has not yet been transported.

The United States has started discussing measures to supply energy to Europe on the premise that Northstream-2 will be suspended in preparation for a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A senior U.S. official said at a telephone briefing on the 25th local time that discussions are underway to protect the European region’s energy supply, which includes a wide range of units, including liquefied natural gas and LNG operators.

The official said he was looking into the amount of natural gas that could be obtained from outside Russia, such as North Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the United States.

“We are also discussing with major natural gas producers around the world,” he said.

“We are checking each company’s capacity and willingness to sell this volume to Europe,” he said.

“We are looking forward to securing sufficient alternative supply chains to allow Europe to survive winter and spring,” the official said.
