As the presidential office is moved to the Yongsan Ministry of National Defense, the military facilities there are moving in a chain.

This includes the ‘Cyber Operations Command’ which responds to North Korean hacking attacks.

It was confirmed that an additional budget of 11.1 billion won will be invested this year alone, leaving the annex of the Ministry of National Defense and moving it into two parts.

Reporter Um Ji-in reports exclusively.

The ROK Army Cyber Operations Command was established in 2010 to prepare for cyber warfare such as hacking in the wake of North Korea’s ‘DDoS’ attack.

It is located in the annex of the Ministry of National Defense in Yongsan, Seoul, and has been relocated to the presidential office.

As the Office of the President moves to the Ministry of National Defense, the five existing departments of the Ministry of National Defense will be moved to the annex, and the Cyber Command will now have to leave Yongsan.

Part of it will be moved to the Defense Science Research Institute in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and part to the Gwacheon Security Support Command in Gyeonggi-do.

According to the MBC report, it was confirmed that 11.1 billion won would be invested in the relocation expenses alone by the end of the year.

600 million won is spent on moving 3,5 billion won for information and communication related to the repair of a facility of 7 billion won. In particular, it was found that part of the budget received by the Ministry National Defense and the Ministry of Public Administration and security were diverted to other purposes.

The design budget for the construction of a new dormitory for soldiers was also included, but the Ministry of National Defense explained that this was the remaining budget after the design contract.

“(Due to the relocation of the presidential office), a vicious circle of tens of billions or hundreds of billions of winnings has been successively added… It is expected that there will be significant security gaps and side effects.”

The Cyber Command can move again after moving to Songpa and Gwacheon.

To ensure the continuity of the operation, the army is also expected to push for a dedicated building for the Cyber Command, but how much it will cost has not yet been calculated.
