A man who tried to film illegally with a camera attached to the women’s bathroom of a shopping center in Seoul was caught on the spot.

The police who were dispatched arrested the man, and it turned out that this man was a police officer working at a police station in Seoul, whose job it was to investigate illegal filming.

Police immediately issued a stand-by order and are investigating whether there are any additional offences.

Reporter Kim Hyun-ji covered the story exclusively.

A bar in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do.

On the night of the 11th, around 9:00pm, a man who had been drinking here went into the women’s bathroom on the first floor of a commercial building.

In a bathroom with a sign reading ‘Women’s Safe Restroom’, the man tried to illegally film the woman in the next room.

Sensing that, the woman looked up at the ceiling and found a camera pointing at her, then went out and grabbed the man.

While the victim was arguing with the man, the police arrived after receiving a report and arrested the man as a red-handed criminal.

“I reported if it was actually filmed or if someone was flicking… I heard that the door was a little (height) shallow, the door was like this, and (a mobile phone) was placed like this…”

As a result of the police investigation, the man was a police officer belonging to the Women and Youth Department of a police station in Seoul, and had been in the police force for less than a year.

The police officer in question was drinking with a friend and is known to have confessed to the crime, saying, “I was filming illegally.”

The police placed the police officer on standby and seized the mobile phone to investigate whether the filming had been done at the time and whether there was any additional illegal filming.

The Women and Youth Department, to which this police officer belonged, deals with illegal filming investigations as its main task.

When asked if the police officer had ever been involved in an illegal filming investigation, the police station replied, “I cannot confirm.”

Last July, in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, a police officer in his 30s accused of installing an illegal filming camera in a public bathroom at the police station where he worked was sentenced to two years in prison.
