Shin Jae-hwan, the last stronghold of Korean gymnastics and nicknamed ‘secret weapon’, succeeded in landing in a golden light, becoming the second Olympic gold medalist in Korean gymnastics history. Shin Jae-hwan scored an average of 14.783 points in the first and second seasons, tied with Denis Ablyazin (Russian Olympic Committee).

However, Shin Jae-hwan won the gold medal thanks to his 6.0-point technique, which had a higher difficulty score than Ablyazin. Ablyazin confirmed the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Artur Davtyyan (Armenia) with 14.733 points.

This is the second time in Korea’s gymnastics history to have won a gold medal at the Olympics. It has been 9 years since Yang Hak-seon (29, Suwon City Hall) won the first Olympic gold medal in Korean gymnastics at the 2012 London Games.

The Korean baseball team won the cold game over Israel and advanced to the semi-finals.

South Korea won the 7th 11-1 cold game against Israel in the second round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic baseball knockout stage held at Yokohama Stadium in Yokohama, Japan on the 2nd. In the Tokyo Olympics, a cold game is declared if the game is played by 15 points after the 5th inning and 10 points after the 7th.

On July 29, in the first match of Group B qualifying, Korea, who struggled against Israel, won 6-5 in the end of the 10th inning of overtime, and defeated Israel again in four days.

The batting line, which started to come alive at the end of the 9th inning against the Dominican Republic on the 1st, swept the Israeli mound with 18 hits on the 2nd. Oh Ji-hwan hit another home run against Israel after the group stage, and Kang Baek-ho washed away the slump with four hits.

South Korea won a dramatic come-back victory over the Dominican Republic the day before, followed by a massive victory over Israel on the 2nd, and were the first to settle into the semi-finals. Korea will compete with the winner of the U.S.-Japan match for the final at 7 pm on the 4th.

Korean women’s table tennis advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Poland in the team event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Korean women’s table tennis team consisting of Shin Yu-bin (17, Korean Air), Choi Hyo-joo (24, Samsung Life Insurance), and Jeon Ji-hee (30, POSCO Energy) in the group event held at the Tokyo Gymnasium in Japan on the 2nd, Natalia Partika and Natalia Bayor of Poland , defeated Lichen 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Olympic table tennis team event consists of one doubles match and two to five singles matches, and the team that wins three matches first wins.

In particular, Shin Yubin’s performance in doubles and singles on this day shone.

Korea, ranked 4th in the world, will compete with Germany (3rd place) to advance to the semifinals at 10 am on the same day.

The Korean women’s handball team drew a dramatic draw in the match against Angola, opening the possibility of advancing to the quarterfinals.

Korea Republic, led by manager Kang Jae-won, drew 31-31 with Angola in the fifth handball women’s group A handball match at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan on the 2nd.

In the women’s handball event in Korea, she won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and reached the quarter-finals of the 2012 London Olympics, and was eliminated from the group stage in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Korea Republic were behind 30-31 in the match against Angola on that day and scored a dramatic equalizer with 11 seconds left in the game to win the draw.

Kim So-young (29, Incheon International Airport) and Gong Hee-yong (25, Jeonbuk Bank) won the bronze medal in women’s badminton women’s doubles by defeating Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan (27, Incheon International Airport). It was the first time in 17 years since the 2004 Athens Olympics that the Korean national team faced each other at the Olympics.

2-0 (21-10, 21-17) won the bronze medal by defeating So-Young Kim, Hee-Yong Gong, So-Hee Lee, and Seung-Chan Shin, 2-0 (21-10, 21-17) in the women’s doubles third and fourth place match in badminton women’s doubles at the Tokyo Olympics held at Musashinonomori Sports Plaza in Tokyo, Japan on the 2nd.

Sohee Lee and Seungchan Shin showed their concentration in the 2nd set after giving up the 1st set, but they could not regain the flow they gave up in the 1st set and finished this Olympics in 4th place.

After the match, the four players hugged each other and congratulated each other.

With this, Korean badminton finished this tournament with one bronze medal in women’s doubles for the second time in a row following the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
