An earthquake in the waters of Japan shook the screen of an Australian TV broadcast that was broadcasting live related to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency on the 4th, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 occurred off the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture around 5:33 a.m. that day. The earthquake also shook the screen of the Australian Channel 7 morning news show ‘Sunrise’, which was being broadcast live at this time.

At the time of the earthquake, reporter Marc Beretta appeared on the screen to deliver news about the Australian national team game from the 10-story temporary press tower in front of the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. However, the camera and lighting were shaken, and Beretta’s panic at that moment was also broadcast live. Beretta, who sensed the earthquake, said, “There is an earthquake in the city where the Olympics are being held. The roof of the building here is shaking, and the cameras and lights are shaking.”

The aftermath of the earthquake lasted about 30 seconds. “It was a very unusual experience, as I had never felt an earthquake before,” Beretta recalled.

CNN reporter Will Ripley also reported the situation. “I felt the shaking of the earthquake for 30 seconds,” he tweeted, recalling the situation at the time of the earthquake.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake is unlikely to cause a tsunami.
