The late Yoo Young-kuk, the ‘pioneer of Korean abstract painting’, is considered one of the artists who is not properly recognized in the market despite his excellent craftsmanship.
This year, the first foreign solo exhibition was promoted in New York under the leadership of the world-leading Pace Gallery, etc., and the work of re-evaluating works and entering foreign markets is accelerating.

Yoo Young-guk, who pioneered Korean abstract painting with Kim Whan-gi.
In one canvas, intense colors collide and harmonize, and the energy emitted is overwhelming.
Each piece is deeply infused with the natural beauty of Korea, such as the mountains and seas experienced in my hometown of Uljin.
It is evaluated for expressing epic grandeur and lyrical beauty by adding oriental colors to the abstract geometric world such as lines, planes, and ellipses.

Despite his excellent artwork, the highest auction price remains 1/10 of Kim Hwan-ki’s work.
This year, along with a re-evaluation of Yoo Young-kuk’s art world, overseas expansion is at its peak.
World leading Pace Gallery, together with PKM Gallery, presented Yoo’s work at ‘Art Basel Hong Kong’, Asia’s largest, and received favorable reviews.

Oriel Pace plans to hold its first solo exhibition abroad in New York this November, and Oriel PKM is seeking to exhibit at the Venice Biennale next year.
Among them, Seoul Auction and K Auction are scheduled to present representative works such as Yu’s 1964 large-scale painting one after the other at auction this week, so it is worth noting how the market evaluation will change .
