[문화]’Squid Game’ wins Gosum Awards at the American Independent Film Awards

The Netflix drama ‘Squid Game’ made in Korea won the award at the ‘Gosum Awards’, an American independent film awards ceremony.

‘Squid Game’ was selected as the winner in the ‘Innovative Series of Over 40 Minutes’ at the 31st Gotham Awards held on Wall Street, New York, USA.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said in his acceptance speech that when he first wrote the script in 2009, people said it was unrealistic and strange, and that it took 12 years to show the show to people, but it took less than 12 days to become the number one show on the planet.

Actor Lee Jung-jae, who was nominated for the Best Acting Award in the ‘New Series’ category at the Gosum Awards for ‘Squid Game’, failed to win the award.

Actor Jeong Ho-yeon also appeared on stage as a presenter for the ‘Breakthrough Non-Fiction Series’.

Celebrating its 31st anniversary this year, the ‘Gossum Awards’ is an awards ceremony for the Independent Film Awards sponsored by IFP, an American independent film support organization, held in New York every year.

As the Squid Game is a series that has gained worldwide popularity, it is expected that it will be nominated for an Emmy Award and other awards ceremonies one after another.
