A media outlet reported that former Chairman Lim Jong-ryong has announced his intention to run for the next president of the Woori Financial Executive Candidate Recommending Committee (Lim Chu-com).

The Executive Candidate Recommending Committee, which consists of Woori Financial Group’s external directors, selected 8 candidates for the first round on the 18th and notified the parties involved.

Former Chairman Lim Jong-ryong explained the background of accepting the candidate for the next chairman, saying, “Recently, Woori Finance has been experiencing various difficulties,” and “I thought external recruitment was necessary to normalize our finances.”

Former Chairman Lim Jong-ryong is a former official who served as head of the Financial Services Commission, head of the Prime Minister’s Office (ministerial level), and 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

He went through elite courses such as the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the President’s Secretary for Economics and Finance.

Between 2013 and 2015, he served as the chairman of NH Nonghyup Financial Holdings.

The Imchu Committee intends to confirm 3-4 candidates as the second group of candidates (short list) on the 27th.

After that, the policy is to decide on the final candidates early next month.

Currently, the insiders are Chairman Lee Won-deok, President Park Hwa-jae, Woori Card President Kim Jeong-ki, Woori Financial Capital President Park Gyeong-hoon, and Woori America Corporation Shin Hyun-seok .

Candidates for outside figures include former Chairman Lim Jong-ryong, former Hana Financial Group Vice Chairman Kim Byeong-ho, and former Woori FIS president Lee Dong-yeon.

In fact, the industry believes it will be a compression battle between internal CEO Lee Won-deok and Park Hwa-jae and external ex-chairman Lim.

Woori Financial Group’s next chairman will take office in March.
