[백브리핑AI] Worst semiconductor cold wave… Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix worry about turning to first-quarter losses

[인포스탁데일리=원주호 기자] The domestic memory semiconductor industry is facing an unprecedented cold wave.

The general view is that SK Hynix will turn to an annual loss this year.

Samsung Electronics is also experiencing a loss in the semiconductor sector in the first quarter of this year.

Recently, the industry judges that the stock of DRAM products from major memory semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron has accumulated rapidly for about 13 to 20 weeks.

In September last year, the inventory was around 10 weeks, but in three months, the inventory has doubled.

As inventories pile up at all semiconductor companies, product prices drop significantly.

As a result of a recent survey by market research company Trend Force, it is known that DRAM prices fell by 20-25% in the fourth quarter of last year compared to the previous quarter.

During the first quarter of this year, it was expected to fall further by 13-18%.

Securities firms are simultaneously lowering the consensus of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

NH Investment & Securities predicted that SK Hynix’s annual operating loss would be around 6.488 trillion won.

Hana Securities also adjusted SK Hynix’s operating loss to 7.2 trillion won.

Samsung Electronics also saw its operating profit fall 26% this year to KRW 22.2553 trillion.

In particular, if you look at just the semiconductor sector, there were a lot of places that were expecting a loss in the first quarter.

The last time Samsung Electronics made a loss in the semiconductor business was in the first quarter of 2009, during the global financial crisis 14 years ago.
