The number of new COVID-19 cases reached 1,729, a record high as of Monday.
It is the 77th day with a four-digit scale and the highest number of confirmed cases on a given day in the past four days, raising concerns about the nationwide spread during the Chuseok holiday.
The number of local cases was 1,697, with 1,302 confirmed in the metropolitan area alone, accounting for 76.7%.
The proportion of non-metropolitan areas was 23.3%, with patients concentrated in Daegu, Busan, and Chungnam.
The number of deaths increased by 4, bringing the total number of deaths in Korea to 2,413.
To minimize damage, 21,683 people were vaccinated yesterday, a cumulative 36,527,829 people, and the vaccination rate is 71.1%.
Of these, 9,572 were vaccinated, a cumulative total of 22,180,500, and the vaccination rate was 43.2%.
