As the number of infected children and adolescents who have not been vaccinated increases one after another, the risk of the spread of COVID-19 is increasing.

The government is rushing to get booster vaccinations from the elderly, and is actively reviewing the introduction of quarantine passes in high-risk facilities used by young people.

The two axes that are leading the recent COVID-19 epidemic are the elderly and children and adolescents.

Despite the number of new confirmed cases of around 3,000, which is less than the 5,000 new confirmed cases predicted by the government as a crisis situation, the medical capacity is reaching its limit and the number of fatalities and severe cases is increasing, especially because there are many elderly patients over the age of 60.

Breakthrough infections follow as time passes after the completion of vaccination.

In response, the government hastened the booster vaccination by shortening the interval to 4 months for people over the age of 60 and 5 months for those in their 50s.

The number of confirmed cases in children and adolescents also remained high, accounting for 16% of new cases.

This is due to the fact that there are many unvaccinated people, but the completion rate of vaccinations 12-17 years old is only 15.4%.

The government is making additional reservations until the 31st of next month, and is actively reviewing whether to apply the ‘Quarantine Pass’ to teenagers.

The plan is to expand the ‘Quarantine Pass’ system to teenagers, which requires them to issue a certificate of completion of vaccination or a negative PCR test when using a facility vulnerable to infection.

It is likely to be introduced in non-essential multi-use facilities such as karaoke rooms and PC rooms, except for schools.

The decision on whether to introduce the youth quarantine pass will be finalized after discussion with the Daily Recovery Support Committee and after consultation with relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Education.
