Although the number decreased by 43 from the previous day, the number exceeded 2,000 for four days in a row.
It is the first time in 4 weeks since the 3rd that the daily number of confirmed cases exceeded 2,000 as of Saturday.
Usually, on weekends, the number of tests decreases and the number of confirmed cases also decreases.
By infection route, 2,052 cases occurred in Korea and 9 cases were imported from overseas.
The momentum of the 4th pandemic is still in the situation ahead of a gradual recovery of daily life.
By region, the metropolitan area has 1,613 cases, which is close to 80% of the number of new confirmed cases in Korea.
In non-metropolitan areas, the spread continued with 62 people in Chungnam, 61 in Gyeongnam, and 58 in Busan.
The number of COVID-19-related deaths increased by 19 to 2,849 in Korea, and the number of patients with severe cases decreased by 7 to 332.
As social distancing is greatly eased and indoor gatherings increase in winter and during the year-end and New Year holidays, there are concerns that the number of confirmed cases may surge.
In addition, more than 5 million unvaccinated adults remain as a major risk factor for the spread of the virus.
Earlier, the quarantine authorities said that they were preparing a medical response system, expecting the number of confirmed cases to increase from 4,000 to 5,000.
Among these, the vaccination completion rate was 75.3%, as the number of completed vaccinations increased by 350,000 during the day yesterday, and the primary vaccination rate is 80.1%.
