Why can’t you feed the cat?”…A cat mom hangout in a national park

Recently, a so-called ‘cat mom’ who was feeding wild cats in Bukhansan National Park was arrested by the police after assaulting an employee of the National Park Service.

Feeding cats in national parks is prohibited as an ‘ecological disturbance’, but conflicts are repeating because the general public is unaware of it.

This is a report by Kim Dae-gyeom, a reporter.

Bukhansan National Park rest area in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Two police officers try to subdue a woman in a mountaineering suit.

But a woman who resists fiercely.

I kick as much as I can on a National Park Service employee who helps the police.

A woman steps on the feet of a police officer with all her might to pick up the glasses that have fallen even after handcuffing them.

When an employee of the industrial complex picks up the glasses and tries to put them on, he kicks them again.

On the 2nd of last month, a woman in her 40s was feeding a cat and when an employee of the industrial complex stopped it, she was swearing and assaulting.

An employee who was hit in the eye by an unknown liquid thrown by the assailant was hospitalized for over a month and a half.

It is known that the assailant said that she was just trying to feed the cat during the police investigation, but the staff stopped her and made her angry and acted out.

However, in the case of national parks, if you feed stray cats, there is a risk of ecological disturbance due to an increase in population, so feeding is prohibited.

This is because wild cats living in the mountains are top predators along with pigs and other small mammals, such as birds, frogs, and squirrels, which adversely affect the ecosystem.

In 2000, the World Union for Conservation of Nature listed cats as one of the 100 deadliest invasive alien species.

Bukhansan National Industrial Complex said that most of the wild cats currently inhabiting national parks are exotic species introduced as companion animals, and there is a risk of ecological disturbance.
