[삼성 언박스] ‘Neo QLED’ with power… Aim for the premium market

[아이뉴스24 서민지 기자] Samsung Electronics is accelerating the expansion of the growing premium TV market by strengthening its mini LED TV ‘Neo QLED’ this year.

Samsung Electronics held the ‘Unbox & Discover’ event online on the 30th and introduced new products for 2022, such as a sound bar, centering on ‘Neo QLED 8K’.

Samsung Electronics is expected to focus on attracting premium TV demand by putting up new products this year, following the introduction of Neo QLED, which first applied mini LED last year.

Although Samsung Electronics has maintained the No. 1 position in the global TV market for 16 consecutive years, its share in the premium TV sector is declining.

According to market research firm Omdia, Samsung Electronics maintained its No. 1 position in the global TV market last year, recording a 29.5% share in terms of price and 19.8% in terms of quantity.

However, the market share of TVs over $2,500 decreased from the previous year (45.4%) to 42.1%. In 2019, Samsung Electronics recorded a 52.4% market share in this market, but it has fallen by about 10 percentage points in two years.

For this reason, Samsung Electronics seems to be actively putting energy into the sales growth of Neo QLED. In particular, as the mini LED market is growing in earnest, it is expected to focus on preoccupying the market.

TrendForce, a market research firm, predicted that global TV shipments this year will reach 217 million units, an increase of 3.4% from last year. It is predicted that this year’s mini LED TV will ship 4.5 million units, more than double that of the previous year (2.1 million units).

The innovative technology of Samsung TV has been applied to the new Neo QLED 8K product. Samsung’s proprietary ‘Neo Quantum Processor 8K’ uses 20 independent AI neural networks to analyze each scene in the video to provide an optimal viewing experience regardless of the input content quality.

In addition, in order to enhance the user-customized experience, smart TVs for 2022 model year including Neo QLED will be equipped with various smart functions and a new user interface to introduce a more powerful Smart Hub.

Jong-hee Han, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics’ DX Division, said, “The innovation that Samsung Electronics pursues always starts with customer experience.” “The goal was to improve it,” he said.
