[오피셜] Paris Saint-Germain split from ‘legend’ Pochettino

[골닷컴] Correspondent Choi Dae-hoon = Coach Mauricio Pochettino, who played a great part in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as a player, will step down as manager after receiving a failing point.

On the 5th (Korean time), PSG announced on its official website, “We are breaking up with manager Pochettino, who took over PSG in the winter of 2021.”

Pochettino took over as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur from the 2014-15 season, and used the DESK line to develop Tottenham into a team that cannot be ignored in the Premier League. The 2018-19 season marked the culmination of his managerial career, leading Tottenham to the Champions League final.

In the end, Pochettino was recognized for his successful leadership of Tottenham and took over as PSG manager in January of last year and was tasked with lifting the ‘Big Year’. For PSG, who had already become untouchable in their own league, winning the Champions League was more important than winning the league.

In his first year in office, he led PSG to the Champions League quarter-finals, raising high expectations, but last season he scored 3-2 against Real Madrid and was eliminated early in the round of 16, and was separated from PSG.

According to local reports, PSG has already agreed to part with Pochettino, but has delayed the announcement of the sacking due to financial issues such as penalties, residual salary, and incentives. There was an invisible clash between manager Pochettino and PSG, but it was PSG who was desperate. The pre-season had to start with a new manager as soon as possible, and it seems that Pochettino’s request was eventually met.
