(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Eui-jin = The US CNN broadcaster reported on the 28th (local time) that Turkey has made an evaluation of Russia’s demands regarding the Donbas region of Ukraine as ‘unrealistic’.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s closest aide, Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman for the Office of the President of Turkey, said in an interview with CNN on the 27th that Russia’s request for approval of the annexation of Crimea and recognition of the independence of Donbass was the same.

“These demands are an uncompromising line for Ukrainians living in Crimea and Donbas,” he said.

“Like other countries in the world, Turkey has not approved the annexation of Crimea. Not even China,” he said. “Russia will have to come up with other demands.”

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Putin has so far refused,” Kalin said. I said it was done,” he said.

Erdogan also emphasized that communication is possible based on his long-standing relationship with Putin.

“Clearly, Putin listens to Erdogan’s advice and suggestions,” said Kalin.

“If there is no dialogue, the war will last for months or years, and the world cannot afford to endure such a prolonged war,” he added.

Turkey has claimed to be a mediator in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and the fifth peace talks are scheduled to be held in Turkey on the 29th.

On the 25th, ahead of the talks, the Russian military said, “Most of the ‘phase 1 operation’ has been implemented.

It was interpreted that Russia’s goal was reduced from taking over Ukraine and changing the pro-Western regime at the beginning of the war.

It is said that this is the cornerstone of Russia’s plan to reduce its target and come up with an exit strategy when the war situation is stalled due to strong resistance from Ukraine.
