It appears that the Russian military did not stop attacking the Ukrainian capital Kiiu and the northern front of Chernivu even after peace negotiations.

Here, the offensive against the eastern Donbas region seems to be intensifying rather than before.

According to Reuters, Governor Viacheslau Chaus Chernivu said on social media on the 30th that the Russian military showed no signs of easing the attack.

After the fifth peace negotiations held in Istanbul, Turkey the day before, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it would “significantly reduce military activities in Kiiu and Chernivu to increase mutual trust.”

But Chaus wrote, “Do you believe in the promise to reduce military activity? Of course not.”

“The enemy demonstrated ‘reduced military activity’ by attacking Chernihiu all night and air raids on the nearby city of Nijin,” he said.

Even around the capital Kiiu, the Russian army did not stop attacking the day before.

Kiiu Deputy Mayor Mikola Povoroznik told state TV that there had been no bombardment of Kiiu overnight, but fighting continued.

“The night passed relatively quietly,” said Deputy Mayor Povoroznik. “Sirens sounded and gunfire was heard around the city, but there was no artillery fire on the city.”

Ukrainian presidential adviser Olexi Arestovic said that Russian forces are moving troops eastward from the northern front to intensify their offensive in the eastern Donbas region.

“We are leaving some troops near Kiiu to prevent Ukrainian forces on the northern front from moving east,” he said.

While a small number of troops near Kiiu intercepted the Ukrainian forces, it appears to be intended to intensify the offensive by concentrating troops on the eastern front.

In fact, after the peace negotiations on the previous day, concerns have been raised that more fierce fighting may take place on the Eastern Front.

Ukraine proposed to consult with Russia on the status of Crimea for the next 15 years on the issue of Crimea, which Russia annexed by force in 2014, and Russia responded positively to this.

However, the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, controlled by pro-Russian separatist rebels, was not mentioned.

This is read with the intention of not giving up the Donbass territory, although there is room for compromise with Russia on the Crimean Peninsula issue.

Russia has also expressed its intention to concentrate its forces on the eastern front instead of withdrawing from the Kiiu and northern fronts, which have faced strong resistance from Ukrainian forces.

Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the day before, “We will be able to focus our efforts on the achievement of the main goal of liberation of Donbas” and “we will continue special military operations until the goal is achieved.”

After the declaration of concentration in Donbass, the Russian army is pouring firepower into the eastern front.

Donetsk Governor Pablo Kirilenko told state TV on the same day that “Russian troops are bombarding almost every city along the front line”.

“The situation could only get worse as the Russian army is focused on attacking the Donetsk region,” he added.
