A senior Pentagon official said the Russian airstrikes were concentrated in four areas: Kiiu and Chernivu in the north, Ijiyum south of Kharkiv and Donbas, CNN reported.

“We are seeing Russia continue to increase the number of sorties, with more than 300 sorties in the last 24 hours,” the official said.

Earlier, on the 29th, Russia announced that it would reduce military activities in order to build trust, saying that there had been progress in negotiations with Ukraine.

However, the U.S. said 20 percent of the Russian troops that surrounded Kiiu had moved elsewhere, but this appears to be a redeployment rather than a withdrawal.

“At this point, there are no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons,” a Defense Ministry official said.
